Saturday Open Stage

Saturday Open Stage Saturday 15 October 2016 -

announcing our next Saturday Open Stage at Rimu Glade Studio: Sat 15 October at 7.30pm.

Put this date in your diary if you don't plan on missing the next Saturday Open Stage - Sat 15 October 2016, at Rimu Glade Studio, 4 Rimu Rd, Waiatarua, Auckland.

You too can perform. All performers are welcome. Just put your name down on the list when you first arrive, or pre-register your act by contacting me on (09) 814 9744. Anything goes, from music to poetry, to performance monologues, dances, improvisations & inspirations. Everyone pays $5, & brings whatever refreshments they would like.
Please note: there will only be a certain number of performers we can fit in on any one night, so arrive early with any equipment you need if you want to perform.

The brilliant supportive atmosphere has set Saturday Open Stage apart from other nights where performers struggle to be heard above the chatter & bar noise. The intimate nature of Rimu Glade Studio means a greatly appreciative 'listening' audience feels part of what is happening on stage.

I 'MC' the night, (that's me, John Goudge), & I like to keep the show moving from one performer to the next. I'll normally warm up the place by starting with a song or monologue or some such silliness.

The night is about letting talent flourish & giving it a space to be honoured, not matter what stage of development you are at.

Rimu Glade Studio is an intimate creative venue with seating for only 40. Please arrive early to get your seat!
The studio is at 4 Rimu Rd, Oratia, Auckland, (off West Coast Rd, about 6 minutes up the hill for the Parrs Park roundabout).

Bring your $5 cash. Sorry no eftpos. (Bring any refreshments you may require.)

Rimu Glade Studio has an excellent PA system, although you may want to bring your own microphone.
Feel free to contact me if you have any queries or requests. (ph 09 8149744)

Rimu Glade is a dedicated drama school & music studio in the bush of the Waitakeres. A few years ago we ran the occasional 'gold coin night' where performers would step out of the audience to perform any number of different items. It was always extremely entertaining & often quite moving.
Now these nights have been revamped & brought back as Saturday Open Stage. It gives students of Rimu Glade's drama school a vehicle for performance, as well as a bunch of talented friends who are musicians, actors, & poets around Auckland. Your $5 door charge kindly helps pay for maintenance & upkeep of the studio.

David C Russell is a singer/songwriter from Glen Eden and plays original acoustic folk-rock songs.
He has lived in west Auckland for over 10 years and has embraced the creative atmosphere.
He enjoys performing his original songs and has played live on bFM to coincide with the release of his debut studio album In-A-World.

Check out David on youtube:

Mandy Patmore is a gorgeous local songstress who is a favourite with Titirangi audiences as a well known West Auckland musician and artist.
She has been performing since she was old enough to stand on a stage, in a number of different line ups ranging from 9 piece funk and soul bands to an all girl punk band.
After being repeatedly told off by band members for being too lippy on stage, she decided to go it alone and has been performing extensively around Auckland as a singer songwriter for many years.  Weaving powerful, emotive lyrics with haunting melodies and a voice to remember, she is a force to be reckoned with.
Mandy writes songs about things that move her, amuse her and piss her off.

Check out one of Mandy's great songs here:

John Goudge - a dynamic performer & fool with a love of the West, John will be singing with special guest Tracey Pierard. An actor, director & musician, John first appeared on the Titirangi Theatre stage back in 1991, & performing his first solo music concert there in 1993.
John runs classes & performances at his studio ‘Rimu Glade’ in Oratia, & is currently directing the upcoming production of Saturday Night Fever, the musical, at Playhouse Theatre in Glen Eden.
A keen songwriter, John released an original album in 2010 entitled Fool Circle. You can often see him performing with his band, with the Titirangi Allstars Soul Revue Band, or the world-fusion dance music ensemble Ionosphere.

See some images from John's album with soundtrack here :

Sasha & Natarani Witten-Hannah - original songs and instrumentals with cello and guitar.

This enduring partnership is well-known around Auckland for its beautiful music. We will be treated to Sasha & Natarani's original music this time, with its uplifting lyrics & emotive instrumentals.

Check out Sasha's track on a mountain top:

The first concert of the series on 25 June was just brilliant, with inspiring performances from Peter Fielding (& Shelly Moore), Jocelyn Aydon (with Mark Watson), Dave Alley (with friends Rod Redgrave & Mark Steven), & the Southern Dreamer Paul Doesburg. Thanks to all the artists, supporters & audience.
